Primary Information for How & Why

To effectively embark on this skill builder, there are a few key pieces of essential information you need to know. These primary details will guide you in learning & performing the skill correctly and maximizing the benefits of your practice.

  • Seeing a range of intensity levels from your ground game, actual climbing plus the reflection process.

Success = Description of what good looks like for this skill.

  • The sequence is important but its not as challenging for you. Reduce the intensity to save it for a moment that requires desire. It’s likely by reducing the intensity you will make note of other things that could use your attention & focus.

Why = Broad explanation of why this skill is important.

  • 1) An elementary view of sequencing is when & where to place our hands and feet.

    2) When we learn how to do this skill it typically requires intense focus especially as the climbing becomes more challenging.

    3) First we need to become aware of our facial expression. Next, reduce that intensity to reduce the mental strain or redirect it to another task.

    4) There is a long list of options to redirect your attention to monitor your execution. Toe Engagement, Quality of Breath, Core Timing, Timing of Momentum or Pace whatever you choose to direct your attention to or monitor this is a higher level of intention.

Directions = Written guidance for the skill.

Essential knowledge to be Effective

To embark on any skill builder successfully, it is crucial to have a strong foundation of essential information. This knowledge will ensure that you perform the skill appropriately to maximize the benefits of your practice. This section will provide you with the necessary depth to best perform this skill builder.

  • 1) Become aware of your range of intensity on a climb by reflecting after your last attempt.

    2) Identify sections where you might be able to lower your intensity level. This might be a section where you keep moving through because it does not require much thought. Practice pausing before entering those sections and reset your intensity level.

    3) In the last step you practiced reducing the intensity level. In this next progression I want you to monitor how you are executing a skill that you have mastered. Monitoring is about asking the following question, “How are you performing & how might you need to direct your attention further up the climb?”

4) Next practice monitoring and toggle between a few skills in a single climb? You will likely struggle at this so I suggest rehearsing and intentionally practice and explore how you can increase the speed and quality of the toggling between the skills.

Progressions = Listing of the progressions for this skill.

  • Identify a list of skills that you might want to monitor if you had mental capacity.

Tips = There might be suggestions on how best to practice & integrate the skill.

References for this exercise

The references below provide clarity by explaining the key terms in a concise manner.

  • Edit the time field to reflect the total estimated time you spent practicing this skill.

Record = What and how to record relevant data to track any changes.

  • Monitor -vs- Focus

Monitor is when we quickly reflect on the quality we are executing the skill.

Focus is when we consciously do the skill with our best intention do do it well.

Definitions = Explanation of a term.
